(Link) Love Makes the World Go Round
Links to other sites and other bloggers are your most powerful asset, so let (link) love rule!
Whoa. I thought you were going to tell me how to get more from my blog, not give more.
Hey, Mr. Selfish, life’s not all about getting. Remember, someone important once noted that, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
With that in mind, and with deepest apologies to Gary Chapman, here are …
The Five Link Love Languages
The Blogroll
This is the obvious one. A “blogroll” is just the list of blogs or other websites in the sidebar of your blog. Just about every blog you see has a blogroll, but the name and the format vary widely. Take a look around, and you’ll see what I mean. (Kim has one of the largest blogrolls I’ve ever seen. Lots of sites are getting some good Emergiblog link love.)
Links on Website or Company Names
Alright, this should be a no-brainer, but I still see lots of bloggers not doing it. If you reference another site or a company, give ‘em some love and link back to their site.
Links to the Post You’re Referencing
One of the best topics for posts on your blog are posts on other blogs. If you find yourself wanting to do more than just leave a short comment at the bottom, comment in a post on your own blog and simply link back to the original post. You get more room to expound on your comments, and your blog will often automatically create a trackback on theirs — an entry in the comments section of their blog that shows that you referenced them.
Links on People’s Names
If you ever mention someone by name in one of your posts, make sure you link to an appropriate page if possible.
Speedlinking
Ever have some things you found interesting but that didn’t fit into a post somewhere? That’s what speedlinking is for. That specific term may have been coined by Darren, but it’s just a post with a list of links and a very short explanation of them. It’s a great way to give out some link love when you just can’t figure out any other way.

Get the idea? Good. Now go out there and spread some love!
