Let’s Trade

I’ve tried this experiment before, and it’s a lot of fun. It’s been a while, though, so let’s do it again — only on a larger scale.

I want an iPad so bad I can hardly stand it. The problem is that I cannot justify it at all. It’s definitely a want, not a need, so it’s a textbook example of Dan Ariely’s first case in An Irrational Guide to Gifts.

The key then, as Dan points out, is to get someone to buy it for me. Then I don’t have to justify it 🙂

So, here’s the experiment: You tell me what you want from me in exchange for buying me an iPad. If I like the trade, we’ll do it. I can give you links/publicity, connect you with someone (either a specific person or type of person) you wouldn’t otherwise be able to get in touch with (I have good connections), review your site and tell you how to get more traffic and revenue, or anything else you can think of. (I won’t take the trade unless I know I can deliver, so it’s not a high-risk scenario for you — just high-reward.)

If you think there’s anything I can do for you that’s worth an iPad, let me hear it! (Use the “Contact Me” link at the top of the site if you don’t want to post it in the comments for everyone to see.)

Which version might we be talking about here?
They range from $499 to $829, so quite a bit of difference.

I am thinking of what I might want in exchange for that kind of dough…

Great question. I’m not picky, so we can make it dependent on what you want to trade. I do know that I’m not interested in the 3G version, though, so that cuts the top price to $699.

Very interested in seeing if this works out for you… 😀

I will trade you an iPad for a job.

Having just moved to Vancouver, Canada a shortage of connections is making it difficult to hook myself up with a quality entry or junior marketing position out here. I easily qualify as I have a graduate business degree and a pretty great resume.

If you can refer – or better yet, recommend – me to someone who subsequently hires me for a quality $40,000+/year base salary job, that in my mind is easily worth the iPad. Let me know what you think.

P.S. I’d never ask you to refer/recommend someone you had no clue about – sending my resume to you is a given, but if you want to get me on the phone and grill me for a few minutes that is 100% okay with me.
