Get Out, Meet Your Neighbors
What’s the easiest way to get some traffic flowing to your blog? Be an active participant in the blogosphere!
Start by reading and commenting on what others have written. Each time you leave a comment on someone else’s blog entry, your name is linked to your site. And if you write something interesting, there’s a good chance that visitors who come by later will click over to your site. The key here, though, is the quality of what you write. Nobody likes a spammer, so I’m not talking about making comments like “Please visit my blog” all over the web. You have to be genuine.
Also, take advantage of “blog carnivals” and other opportunities to submit things you’ve written. The Blog Carnival Index is a good place to start, but you’ll find many other opportunities if you just get out there and participate.
Finally, make it easy for people to contact you. People like to have a connection with the person behind the blog, so the more accessible you are, the more likely they are to tell their friends. Whatever you do, though, don’t use your personal email address. Set up a free account at Yahoo, Hotmail or Gmail and use that for your blog correspondence. That way you don’t have to worry about spammers getting hold of your personal account and flooding it with junk to the point where it becomes unusable.

Not at all! Especially in the beginning, you’ll find that you get tons more traffic from other sources than you do from search engines: And if you write something interesting, there’s a good chance that visitors who come by later will click over to your site. I get a lot of traffic that way. People read my comments and then click over to learn more about who said it.
